The technology industry in India is emerging as the favourite field of the new generation of students. About 77 percent of the youth are showing interest in this field. This assessment was presented in a survey report on Monday. This report was prepared jointly with Indeed and NASSCOM, an organisation of software companies. It said that the contribution of Millennials and Gen Z to the technical workforce in India is about 90 percent. This enables higher generational diversity, while also changing priorities. Gen Z refers to the generation born between the late 1990s and early 2000s. In the category of Millennials, those born between the early 1980s and mid-1990s fall. According to the report, “Learning and growth, along with culture and ethics, are the top criteria for both Millennials and Gen Z when choosing an organisation. This underlines the continued importance employers place on skills and capability development to cope with the current working environment and prepare for their desired career paths.”

According to this report, about 84 percent of employers are looking for or ready for the Gig Mode’. In a gig economy, there is a free market system in which temporary positions are common and organisations hire independent workers for short-term commitments. Startups and business process management (BPM) sectors lead in recruitment in this segment.

According to the report, as more organisations adopt new technologies, the demand for specialist roles such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) scientists, quantum computing researchers, quantum AI developers, and blockchain experts is increasing. Roles in data and analytics are among the most in-demand jobs. This is followed by things like enhancing the customer experience, automation, and efficiency. Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, NASSCOM, said in an interview: “The future of work will be defined by the balance between efficiency improvements through automation and the vast potential for creativity arising from continuous innovation.”
