With the entire world gearing up for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, Indian archer Tarundeep Rai is set to make an empathic return to the sporting extravaganza. Tarundeep will be making his fourth appearance in the Olympics as he participates in the men’s individual and men’s team archery events. His first appearance came in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens where Tarundeep was placed 32nd in the men’s individual round and 43rd overall. He also represented the India men’s archery team that finished in 11th place. The 40-year-old Indian archer made his Olympic return in 2012 in London. Nearly a decade later Tarundeep represented India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Back then, the Sikkim-born archer made it to the quarterfinals of the men’s team event and the second round of the individual event.
Apart from his excellence in the sport, Tarundeep Rai has also made significant contributions to the state’s legacy of producing exceptional talent across various sports. Following in the footsteps of his cousin, Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia, Rai has established himself as one of the most prominent figures in the field of archery.

Paris Olympics Qualification
Tarundeep Rai qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 earlier this year in June. He played a significant role at the Archery World Cup held in April. Tarundeep led the Indian men’s recurve team to victory against reigning Olympic champions South Korea. The victory significantly boosted India’s chances of qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

Tarundeep Rai’s most recent performance came in the 2024 Archery World Cup where he ended India’s 14-year wait for a gold medal at the event. They beat the Olympic champions South Korea without dropping a set to secure the medal.
