Tamil Nadu’s Republic Day tableaux for Centre get ready for statewide display | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Owing to the controversy surrounding rejection of Tamil Nadu’s Republic Day paintings featuring freedom fighters, public interest around them has increased. Now, artisans and officials are striving to make a good tableaux that will be paraded in Chennai on January 26.
Three floats on ‘Tamil Nadu in freedom struggle’ will feature icons such as Subramania Bharati, VO Chidambaram, Velu Nachiyar and Maruthu Pandiyar brothers.
On Saturday, artisans were giving final touches at the Lady Willingdon School ground in Triplicane. Groups of carpenters, painters and sculptors were poring over designs, giving shape to the clay to get the perfect expression of heroes of the land.
One of the floats will have Velu Nachiyar, the first queen to fight the British, riding a horse with a sword with women soldiers holding spears.
Police and other uniformed personnel conducted rehearsals on Kamarajar Salai.
While the Republic day parade is not open to the public, the focus will be on the tableau that chief minister M K Stalin had said they will be part of the state R-Day events.
According to officials, there will be no other presentations from government departments this year.
“This year, there will be no cultural events by school and college students due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. The event is planned for 35 minutes only,” said an official.
The tableau is expected to be taken to all important cities in the state after the R-Day event in Chennai.
