Tamil Nadu Half-Yearly exams in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram districts have been postponed by the state government
The half-yearly exams for students in the state’s several impacted areas have been postponed by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung. The exams in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram districts have been postponed by the state government. The school principals in these districts have been tasked with conducting examinations based on the areas’ recovery levels and providing different question papers.
However, according to the schedule, the half-yearly examinations would begin today, December 7, in the remaining districts of the state. For students in classes 11 and 12, the Tamil Nadu board half-yearly exam will be held from December 7 to December 22. The Directorate will conduct exams for Classes 11 and 12 from 9:45 am – 12:45 p.m. and 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm, correspondingly.
Amidst severe floods in numerous parts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin has made the decision to extend the holiday for all schools and institutions till December 7. Six taluks, namely Pallavaram, Tambaram, Vandalur, Thiruporur, Chengalpattu, and Thirukazhukundram, have decided to keep their educational institutions closed today.
Following the devastation caused by Cyclone Michaung in Tamil Nadu, Stalin visited some of the affected regions, distributing food and necessary goods to individuals housed at a relief camp in the city, and inspecting actions made by the city civic authority to drain water.
Stalin in a correspondence requested immediate temporary relief assistance of Rs 5060 crores from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after inspecting the devastation caused by Cyclone Michaung in Tamil Nadu. He urged that the Prime Minister dispatch a central team to assess the damage caused.
Heavy rains during Cyclone Michaung have caused flooding in parts of Tamil Nadu over the past few days. Rescue personnel have been dispatched to evacuate inhabitants from affected locations. An estimated 17 people have died in floods caused by the intense rains that preceded the cyclone during the last several days, most of whom were in Chennai.
