Tamil Nadu Announces Holiday For Schools In 7 Districts Due To Heavy Rainfall

Chennai: Intense rainfall swept through the coastal and inland districts of Tamil Nadu. Due to the continuous downpour in various regions of the state, authorities in several districts declared a school holiday on Tuesday. Chennai’s skies are expected to unleash their first heavy spell during the onset of the northeast monsoon in the state, as reported by PTI.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a forecast for the likelihood of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on November 14.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated the potential for increased rainfall activity. A low-pressure area is expected to develop over the Southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours, attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the South Andaman Sea.

This system is anticipated to move in a west-northwest direction, eventually intensifying into a depression over the West Central Bay of Bengal around November 16.

The incessant rain that battered the districts, forced the authorities to declare a holiday for schools in Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and Cuddalore districts. At least 15 districts including Chennai are likely to come under a heavy spell today, the forecast said.
