A bizarre samosa controversy surrounded Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu after snacks meant for him were served to his staff.
Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Jairam Thakur hosted a samosa party for BJP leaders and workers in Mandi on Friday after the controversy over the snack surrounding Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu took center stage in the state.
The bizarre row erupted after three boxes of samosas and cakes that were brought from Hotel Radisson Blue and were meant to be served to CM Sukhu at the CID headquarters for a function on October 21, went missing and were served to the CM security staff instead. A CID probe was ordered into the incident, drawing the BJP’s reaction which dubbed the Congress government as a “laughing stock”.
Jairam Thakur throws samosa party
In a video shared by the BJP Himachal Pradesh unit on X, Jairam Thakur, the former state Chief Minister, was seen sitting with leaders and workers of the party and enjoying the snacks.
“Bahot swadisht hai bhai (It’s very delicious),” Thakur is heard saying to the attendees of the party.

The party had also featured jalebi, which was a talking point after the Haryana Assembly Election results ended with the BJP victory.
The BJP had mocked Rahul Gandhi over his jalebi comment during the campaign trail and sent 1kg of jalebis from Bikanervala in Delhi’s Connaught Place to the Lok Sabha LoP’s residence on Akbar Road.

Samosa controversy
The goof-up snowballing into controversy necessitated a CID investigation into the incident. The CID termed it an “anti-government” act.
CM Sukhu said that the probe was not ordered into the missing samosas which the media had turned it into, but for “misbehavior” of officials.
He termed the BJP raking up the matter aggressively to attack him as “childish”.
“The probe was about misbehaviour of officials but the media has turned the CID probe into samosas. The DGP has already given a clarification in this regard,” he said.
“The BJP’s behaviour in raking up this issue is childish and laughable,” the Chief Minister added.
A top official in the CID department said that all people named in the enquiry report have acted in an “anti-CID” and “anti-government” manner which is why the food items could not be served to the VVIPs.
