According to sources, a cabinet meeting was to be held for the release of other prisoners including Sidhu, but this meeting did not take place. At the same time, it is also discussed that if Sidhu has been imprisoned for one year, then his maximum sentence of 1 month can be forgiven, but now he is not coming under this scope.

If Navjot Sidhu is not released today, he will come out in April. On May 19, Sidhu was sentenced to one year imprisonment by the Supreme Court in the road rage case. After which he surrendered on 20 May. Since then he is lodged in Patiala Central Jail. However, he did not take any parole during this period.

Navjot Sidhu has been invited to Rahul Gandhi’s Srinagar rally on 30 January. If he had come out of jail today, he could have attended the rally as well. He could not attend the Bharat Jodo Yatra due to his imprisonment, but Sidhu’s family joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

In the 34-year-old case of road rage, the Supreme Court had sentenced Navjot Singh Sidhu to 1 year imprisonment. In an incident of road rage in Punjab in 1988, an elderly man was killed by Sidhu’s punch. In this case, the High Court sentenced Sidhu to one year imprisonment. However, the Supreme Court acquitted Sidhu of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and imposed a fine of one thousand rupees. In this case, the victim’s family filed a review petition. Hearing on which, the Supreme Court sentenced Sidhu to one year’s imprisonment.
