In May 2021, 1456 seats in NEET-PG were left vacant, which are yet to be filled. In this regard, 7 doctors had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, on which the court ruled on Wednesday. The Supreme Court told the Center that you are playing with the future of doctors.

A bench of Justice MR Shah and Justice Aniruddha Bose heard the matter. He slammed the (MCC) Medical Counseling Committee and the central government, saying that 1456 seats are vacant since May 2021. Why is the mop-up counseling round not done till now? What are you getting from keeping vacant seats? Knowing how much doctors are needed. Along with this, the Supreme Court said that the Director General of Health Services will be summoned in the court and will pass the order.

The court has also warned that it may consider asking the Center to pay compensation to doctors for playing with their lives and future.

Playing with the future of students: Court
The bench initially told the counsel appearing for the MCC – if even a single course seat remains vacant, it should not remain vacant. It is your duty to see that they do not remain empty. You are playing with the future of the students.

Lawyer asked for one day’s time
The lawyer replied that the Additional Solicitor General is not present here today. An affidavit will be submitted to explain everything, which requires a day’s time. On this, the court gave a day’s time and said that this is a serious matter for medical students. The central government is not run only through the Additional Solicitor General.

no one is following the deadline
The Supreme Court indicated to the Center that another bench of the apex court had in March this year quashed the mop-up counseling for NEET-PG 2021. Also said that no one is following the deadline. The counsel for the Center told the court that the order for counseling on 146 newly added seats was passed in March after the second round of counseling was over.
