Star to Telecast IPL for Next Five Years More, Viacom 18 Wins Digital Rights: Reports

It is said that the intense bidding war between the TV giants Sony and Star network fared in the e-auction table before Star once again pegged the rights with a record-shattering amount.

It is believed that the board will now earn around ₹57.5 crore per match from TV broadcasting while Digital rights partner Viacom 18 will make ₹50 crore from a single match which will make it around ₹107.5 crore collectively in one match thus making IPL the 2nd most expensive league based on per match valuation overtaking English Premier League and is only behind National Football League (NFL) in this root.

A senior BCCI functionary in his statement said, “Star has retained the Indian TV rights of IPL for next 5 years while Viacom18 has got the digital rights.

The combined per match value from only TV and Digital rights is 107.5 crore. With these bids, monopoly of one broadcaster in IPL ends”.
