Twelve people lost their lives in a stampede at Vaishno Devi temple in Katra, Jammu late last night. Two women are also among the dead. At the same time, 14 people were injured in this accident, out of which the condition of 3 is said to be critical. All the injured have been admitted to Narayana Hospital in Katra. According to the people present at the spot, the temple was overcrowded and there was not enough security.

8. Dr. Arun Pratap Singh, age 30 years, son Sat Prakash Singh resident of Gorakhpur UP

PM Modi expressed grief by tweeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the accident. He tweeted and said, ‘Extremely saddened by the death of people in the stampede at Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan. Condolences to the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. The Prime Minister has spoken to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Union Minister Nityanand Rai regarding the accident and is monitoring the situation.

People say – preparation was not according to the crowd
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh said that according to initial reports, there was a dispute between the devotees over some issue. There was a scuffle between them, which led to a stampede. The people present at the spot said that adequate security arrangements were not in place. A devotee said that a large number of people had gathered. There was no way out.

Central government announced compensation for family members
Those who lost their lives in the stampede are from UP, Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The journey continues even after the accident. On the other hand, the central government has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured. At the same time, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced an assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the dead and Rs 2 lakh each to the injured.

Home Minister Amit Shah said – all possible help is being given
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also condoled the accident at Vaishno Devi temple. He tweeted saying, ‘My heart is deeply pained by this tragic accident. I have spoken to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. The administration is working continuously to provide treatment to the injured. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
