SpiceJet plane emergency landing: The plane was going from Mumbai to Gujarat; returned due to technical fault

A SpiceJet plane going from Mumbai to Kandla in Gujarat was made a caution landing back in Mumbai. All passengers and crew are safe. In the last 40 days, this is the 9th case of a SpiceJet plane making a re-landing due to a technical fault after its flight. The DGCA official said that its investigation has been started.

A day earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had banned 50% of SpiceJet flights for two months. During this, DGCA will keep a special watch on SpiceJet flights. SpiceJet had said that flight operations will not be affected by the DGCA order, as the number of flights has already been reduced due to the off-season.

Airlines have deployed qualified engineering staff at all stations: DGCA
DGCA has said that Indian Airlines has deployed qualified engineering personnel at all its stations. They were asked to do so after increasing incidents of technical glitches in aircraft in the last 45 days.

The DGCA had said on July 18 that unqualified engineering personnel of the airlines are certifying the planes before they take off. Companies were asked to deploy qualified AME personnel by July 28.

SpiceJet in loss for 3 consecutive years
Private airline SpiceJet has been making losses for the last three years. This company has incurred a loss of Rs 316 crore in 2018-19, Rs 934 crore in 2019-20 and Rs 998 crore in 2020-21.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation’s reply in Rajya Sabha
Recently, the government, while replying in the Rajya Sabha, said that the DGCA had done spot checking of SpiceJet planes. Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh said that the DGCA conducted 53 spot checks on 48 SpiceJet planes between July 9 and July 13 and no major security breach was found.
