Sonali Phogat Murder – Two Aides Confess To Spiking Her Drink, Formally Arrested: Goa Police

New Delhi: Accused Sudhir Sangwan and his associate Sukhwinder Singh have confessed that they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made deceased BJP leader Sonali Phogat drink it, the  Goa Police informed on Friday.

“On the basis of CCTV footage, it was seen that accused Sudhir Sangwan & his associate Sukhwinder Singh were partying with the deceased at a club. A video establishes that one of them forcefully made the victim consume a substance,” IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

When confronted, Sukhwinder & Sudhir confessed that they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made the victim drink it, the IGP informed.

“Both accused established in preliminary investigation and they’ve been arrested. Further investigation is underway. An expert of FSL has been called. For further interrogation, the accused will be sent with a team to various locations to get further evidence,” the officer said, as quoted by ANI

The two associates of the BJP leader from Haryana were questioned overnight by Goa Police in connection with her alleged murder, an official informed news agency PTI on Friday.

Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, whose names figure as accused in the First Information Report (FIR) for murder, were detained but not arrested.

Both were questioned overnight, said inspector Prashal PN Desai of Anjuna police station in North Goa district, as per OTI.

Anjuna police added the murder charge to the case of `unnatural death’ after forensic experts at the Goa Medical College and Hospital conducted autopsy on Phogat’s body on Thursday morning and said in the report that there were multiple “blunt force injuries”.

Phogat, a former TikTok star and social media influencer, arrived in Goa along with Sagwan and Wasi on August 22 and checked into a hotel in Anjuna.

The next day she was brought dead to St Anthony Hospital. Initially, the doctors had said that she died of a suspected heart attack.
