Solar Eclipse 2023 Live Updates: Totality Of Hybrid Eclipse Is Visible From Exmouth. WATCH

Hybrid Surya Grahan 2023 Live Updates: Hello and welcome to ABP Live, follow the space for all the latest updates on the Hybrid Solar Eclipse 2023.

On April 20, 2023, the first solar eclipse of the year will sweep through Australia and Southeast Asia, marking a rare astronomical event known as the Ningaloo Eclipse. This hybrid solar eclipse will be a combination of total and annular solar eclipses and will be named after an aboriginal word. While the solar eclipse will not be visible in India, people in the country can watch it online.

The Path Of Totality And The Ningaloo Coast

The path of totality, which is the length of time during which the Moon covers the Sun completely during a solar eclipse, will pass over Ningaloo, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed region on Western Australia’s remote coast near Exmouth. The Ningaloo Eclipse will cast its shadow over the tip of Australia in a 40-kilometre-wide track. This eclipse will be an extraordinary and rare astronomical event, making it a unique opportunity for Western Australia.

Understanding Hybrid Solar Eclipses

A hybrid solar eclipse, also known as an annular-total eclipse, occurs when the Moon’s shadow moves across the globe, and the observer’s path changes from an annular to a total eclipse or vice versa. The Earth’s surface is curved, which causes the shift between annular and total during the eclipse. During a total solar eclipse, the new Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, casting the darkest part of its shadow, known as the umbra, on Earth. The Moon entirely covers the Sun during a total solar eclipse, making it visible only in those regions located in the path of the Moon’s umbra. In contrast, during an annular solar eclipse, the edge of the Sun remains visible as a bright ring around the Moon.

Observing The Eclipse

The countries that will witness the total phase of the solar eclipse are Australia, East Timor, and Indonesia. The path of totality will pass over a small peninsula called North West Cape, located about 1,100 kilometres north of Perth. The rest of Australia and a significant portion of Southeast Asia will witness a partial solar eclipse. In Perth, about 71 per cent of the Sun will appear to be covered by the Moon, while in Sydney, 10 per cent of the Sun will appear to be covered. In Singapore, the figure will be 16 per cent.

The hybrid solar eclipse of April 20, 2023, is a one-in-10-years eclipse, making it a rare phenomenon. The Ningaloo Eclipse, named after an aboriginal word, will pass over one of the most beautiful regions on Earth, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Coast, located on Western Australia’s remote coast near Exmouth. As some regions will witness a total solar eclipse, while others will see an annular eclipse, this solar eclipse is hybrid, making it a slightly rare event.

When And How To Watch The Hybrid Solar Eclipse Online
