On the night of 29 August, the watchman Shambhudayal Dubey (age 60 years), resident of Anand Nagar Makroniya, was killed by pelting a stone on the head while sleeping in the Art and Commerce College premises of the Civil Line police station area. When he reached his house, Shambhudayal’s son Rahul Dubey told – Father was doing watchman in college for about 6 years. He used to leave home at around 9 pm and would come in the morning. To run the house, Sonu used to work part time on a tanker supplying water. After working there, he hardly got 3-4 thousand rupees. Even after working day and night like this in a month, he could hardly earn only 8-9 thousand rupees.

Sonu had three brothers and one sister. Sister has died due to TB disease. One brother is still battling TB disease. Sonu was also getting his treatment done. The eldest brother Mangal Verma is handicapped. His entire family lived in a two-room flat given by the government. The eldest and youngest brother shifted to another place when there was less space in the house. Both those brothers were also barely running the house by doing small jobs. In such a situation, the responsibility of mother and brother ill with TB was on Sonu’s shoulders.
