Smuggling of diamonds and jewelery worth crores through Himachal: smugglers caught in Paonta on Haryana border; Jewelery worth 1.60 crores was being taken from Delhi to Dehradun

Diamonds and jewelery worth crores have been seized in Himachal Pradesh. Jewels and diamonds were being smuggled from Delhi to Uttarakhand through the nakas in view of the Himachal assembly elections, but they were caught at Paonta Sahib near the Haryana border.

In Paonta Sahib of district Sirmaur, the police searched a white colored Toyota car during checking at the Baharal check post and found a box full of jewellery. When the documents were asked from the driver, he could not show anything. He didn’t even have a bill.

It was a Delhi numbered vehicle and diamonds and jewelry were being smuggled across the border of Haryana and taken to Dehradun in Uttarakhand via Himachal. The Excise and Taxation Department has imposed a fine on these jewelery being carried without documents.

1.60 crore jewelry-diamonds

Confirming the matter, DSP Umakant Thakur said that the police searched the car number DL 8CAB0439 at the block. Out of this, 3.270 kg of diamonds and jewelery were recovered, valued at Rs 1,60,50,708.

The driver had brought them from Karol Bagh, Delhi and was going to Dehradun. The police seized the ornaments and handed them over to the Excise Department. The department imposed a fine of 9 lakh 35 thousand.
