Tension gripped Nagamangala town in Karnataka’s Mandya and prohibitory orders were issued after stones and footwear were hurled at a Ganpati procession on Thursday.

According to sources, some miscreants hurled stones and footwear at a Ganpati procession that was proceeding for idol immersion, sparking communal tensions in the town. Following this, Hindu youngsters staged a protest outside a local police station seeking action against the miscreants, who were allegedly from a different community.

Police officials had to resort to lathicharge after the crowd tried to torch a few push carts, two-wheelers and a cloth shop. The crowd was disbursed after a lot of efforts.
