SGPC Principal Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has now allowed Sikhs to carry kirpans in air travel. An order has been issued in this regard. After this order, now Sikh passengers will be able to travel in airplane with kirpan. In the guidelines issued by the ministry, it has been said that the length of the blade of the kirpan should not exceed 15.24 cm. According to this, passengers will be able to take a saber up to 22.86 cm with them. This permission has been given for domestic passenger aircraft.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Principal Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has warned the Government of India that religious freedom of Sikhs should be taken care of before issuing any order. It is worth noting that the Ministry of Aviation had issued orders asking Sikh employees not to carry kirpans at Indian airports.

In the letter, an attempt was made to snatch the freedom of the Sikhs.

There is also a kirpan in the five ‘K’s worn in Sikhism. After which SGPC Principal Advocate Dhami wrote a letter to the Aviation Ministry and objected that by doing so, the Aviation Ministry was trying to snatch away the freedom of the Sikhs.

In a letter to Jyotiraditya Scindia, Pradhan Dhami had said that the Government of India should not forget that Sikhs have contributed the most for India’s independence. Even today the culture which is left in the country is due to the Sikhs. Within 5 days of sending this letter, the Ministry of Aviation has withdrawn its orders.

Government of India should take care of religious freedom

Dhami has said that it is a good thing to take this order, but the Government of India should have thought before issuing this order. He hopes that in future no such order will be issued by the government against the religious freedom of Sikhs and any person.
