In Haryana, ruling BJP for eight years, along with its ally JJP, captured 27 out of 46 municipalities. Of these, BJP won 24 and JJP won in three bodies. Out of 18 municipal councils, BJP won 10 and JJP 1. At the same time, out of 28 municipalities, BJP won the election of president in 14 and JJP candidates in 2.

Overall, despite the alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), the BJP could not repeat the performance of the previous civic polls this time. Last time BJP was in control of 21 municipalities whereas this time it could win only 14. That is, the party lost the post of president in 7 municipalities.

Similarly, in the last 14 municipal councils, the post of president was with the BJP, but this time only its candidates have won the election for the post of president. That is, the party lost the presidency in 4 city councils as compared to the last time. This time the BJP had contested for the post of president in 14 out of 18 municipal councils.

On the other hand, JJP, which is contesting civic elections for the first time, fielded its candidates for the post of president in 4 city councils in alliance with the BJP but won only one. Out of these 46 bodies, BJP got president post in only 24, whereas last time it had president in 35 bodies. It can be said that 11 bodies got out of the hands of the party.

BJP won in a body in CM’s home district

There were elections in 4 municipalities in Karnal, the district of CM Manohar Lal. Out of this, only one BJP chairman candidate could win in Gharaunda Palika, that too by just 31 votes. Congress-backed in Assandh, independent candidates have won elections in Tarawadi and Nissing. Winning only 1 seat out of 4 president posts in CM’s home district is alarm bell for BJP. Last time BJP was holding 4 municipal president posts.

JJP candidate lost in the post of Deputy CM

Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala has won the election from Uchana assembly constituency. The JJP candidate stood third in Uchana Municipality. Narwana is the area of JJP MLA Ram Niwas. Despite winning the assembly elections, the party’s candidate remained at number six in the civic polls. Ajay Singh Chautala and Naina Chautala have been MLAs from Mandi Dabwali, the home of the Chautala family. The party candidate finished third in the Nagar Parishad seat. In Tohana, Minister Devendra Babli is the MLA of JJP and Panchayat Minister in the government. Despite this, the JJP candidate could not win here and finished second. The JJP MLA in Shahbad is Ramkaran Kala and here the JJP candidate won the election. The assembly in Guhla Cheeka has JJP MLA Ishwar Singh and the seat has been won by the JJP.

Kejriwal’s rally did not work

In the 48 municipal elections of the state, AAP, contesting on the party symbol, was able to open an account in only one seat. AAP could win the seat of Ismalabad Municipality. However, after the victory in the Punjab Assembly elections, the party did a lot of campaigning in Haryana. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also held a rally in Kurukshetra during the elections. But the party got only one seat.

Congress supported 5 presidents

Haryana Congress did not contest the election on the party symbol. The Congress had won elections on three municipal councils last time. No Congress-backed candidate won the city council this time. 5 Congress supported candidates have won the election in the municipality. Congress does not see any benefit from these elections.

INLD opened account, won 2

In the last civic polls, INLD neither had any control over the Municipal Council nor the Municipality. This time INLD could win the election for the first time for the post of President of Dabwali Municipal Council and Ranian Municipality. However, Abhay Chautala could not win the seat of Municipality in his assembly seat Ellenabad.
