The world’s highest tunnel will be built on the Shinkula Pass to connect Ladakh with Himachal, which is very important from the country’s security and strategic point of view. This tunnel will be built at an altitude of 16580 feet above sea level. It will be constructed by the Road Border Organization (BRO).

The central government has kept a budget of 1681 crores for this tunnel. The construction of the 4.1 kilometer long Shinkula tunnel will start in July this year and a target has been set to complete it by 2025.

After separating Ladakh from Jammu and Kashmir and making it a Union Territory, this project is very important in terms of maintaining road connectivity from there throughout the year. The central government is serious about getting it completed at the earliest.

With the construction of Shinkula tunnel, tourism in Leh-Ladakh will get a boost.

People will be able to go to Leh-Ladakh for 12 months
Ladakh’s BJP MP Jamyang Tshering Namgyal said that everyone knows about the Zojila Tunnel and the Atal Tunnel built in Lahaul Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. The new tunnel to be constructed on Shinkula Pass will prove to be even more important. After the construction of Shinkula Tunnel, Leh Ladakh will be connected to the whole world by road throughout the year. Right now the roads leading here get closed after snowfall.

The MP told that a new tunnel will be built from Darcha in Lahaul to Padum Nimu in Ladakh. The target is to complete it in the next three years. With the formation of Shinkula tunnel, tourists from the country and abroad will be able to reach most of the tourist places of Zanskar in Kargya, Purne, Padum, Jangla, Karsh, Mune in every season.

Tourism will increase in Zanskar valley
The BJP MP said that at present the first option to go to Leh-Ladakh is Zojila Pass, which is adjacent to the Pakistani border. The second route is the Baralacha Pass, which is close to the China border. Both these routes are closed in snowfall. Because of this, the army also has to face many problems.

In such a situation, now a tunnel will be built at Shinkula Pass as a third option to go to Leh-Ladakh. The new tunnel will be away from Pakistan and China border. After the construction of this tunnel, the movement of army for Leh-Ladakh will be easy. Even the enemy countries will not know about the army movement.

Member of Parliament Jamyang Tshering Namgyal said that with the construction of Shinkula Tunnel, Leh-Ladakh’s Padum Nimu Zanskar valley will be connected to Lahaul and the rest of the world for 12 months. After that tourism will also get a boost in Zanskar Valley. The economic condition of the people here will be strong. At this time there are neither roads nor electricity here. Because of this, the people of this area live in very difficult conditions. With the completion of the Shinkula tunnel, development will start in the entire Zanskar valley.
