Madras High Court lawyer has been suspended from practice for being intimate with a woman during virtual hearing. RD Santhana Krishnan has been barred from practicing in all courts, tribunals and authorities across the country.

The Bar Councils of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have issued a press release regarding this matter. According to this, until the pending disciplinary action against Krishnan is disposed of, he will not be able to practice under his own name or any other name.

Instructions to take legal action against the lawyer
Portfolio judges PN Prakash and R Hemalatha initiated contempt proceedings against Santhana Krishnan. He directed the CB-CID wing of the police to register a case and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. He has asked to file the investigation report by December 23. Along with this, the Tamil Nadu Bar Council has also been directed to take disciplinary action against the lawyer.

‘Can’t turn a blind eye to such an incident’
The bench had on Monday said that when such an incident happens in public in the midst of court proceedings, it cannot be blinded to it. The court directed the city police commissioner to take steps to check the spread of video clippings on social media.

Court hearing to be started in offline mode
The judges said that the court proceedings should now be resumed in offline mode. A large number of lawyers have started making personal visits to the High Courts and District Courts. However, the Acting Chief Justice has to decide on this, before whom this matter can be placed.
