Sewage water turns damaged Trichy Road unmotorable | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: A manhole has been overflowing on Trichy Road for nearly a week now, filling the stretch with sewage water, which gets splashed on two-wheeler riders and pedestrians as vehicles speed on the stretch. The city corporation is, however, yet to take any steps to address the issue.
A regular commuter on the stretch said the roads on both the sides beneath the flyover were completely damaged and the stagnant sewage water has added to their woes. “While the flyover work on the stretch has been completed, the roads are yet to be relaid.”
R Jeevagan, another regular commuter, said commuters entering into altercations over speeding vehicles splashing sewage water on them was now a common sight on the stretch. “I have been noticing this sewage water issue on the road for the past one week and it is yet to be addressed.”
Veera Raghavan, an autorickshaw driver, said the sewage water was stagnating on the road till Sungam Junction. “While a bund was formed to stop the sewage water flow, it breaches often.”
A national highways official said the sewage water issue was caused by the city corporation’s underground drainage work. “We have urged the corporation officials to speed up the work and address the issue.” He also cited the sewage water issue for the delay in relaying the roads.
