Name- Shiv Gound alias Halku. Age 19 years. Identity – Serial killer. Four guards killed in six days. Three in Sagar and one in Bhopal. Everyone’s method is the same. Hitting sleeping guards. Shiv is now in the custody of the police. After the murder of a watchman in Bhopal on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday, Sagar police arrested Shiva on the basis of mobile location. The mobile also belonged to the same watchman whom he had killed two days ago in Sagar. The reason for these serial killings is the desire to be famous.

Let us first know the serial killer…
Shiva has studied till 8th standard. Basant Meher, the deputy sarpanch of the village, says that he was of a fighting nature in his childhood. In school, he used to beat up the boys of the village on small matters. He was not friends with anyone in the village. He used to fight with everyone. 6 years ago, at the age of 13, Sagar ran away from home. Reached Pune by train. Started working in a hotel here.
Shiva used to come to the village for a day or two in between. There was no match here. One day there was a dispute with the hotel owner about something. Shiva beat her so much that she had to be admitted to the hospital. Shiva was sent to the Children’s Correctional Home. Father brought the little tribals freed him. After that he went to Goa. While working here, he started speaking and understanding English.
The accused Shiva lives in this house in Kekra village of Sagar. He also came home on Rakshabandhan.
didn’t tell anyone about the job
On Rakshabandhan, he came to village Kekra for seven-eight days. Where did he go after that, no one knows. Shiv’s father, the little Adivasi, told the police that they never spoke on the phone. He didn’t even mention anything about the job.
Mother Sitabai told that when he had come home on Rakshabandhan, then by nature he did not feel that he was killing innocents. Yes, he used to say so much that soon people will start recognizing him. Shiva is the youngest son. The elder son works as a laborer in Pune. Two sisters are married. Father has one-and-a-half acres of agricultural land. That’s how their expenses go.
Sagar came after cycling 65 km
From Kekra village, Shiv reached Sagar after traveling 65 km by cycle. On August 25, he stayed with a room in a Dharamshala located in Katara, Kotwali area. On the night of August 27, in the Cantt police station area, Kalyan Lodhi (50), a watchman posted in the factory, was killed with a hammer on his head. Till now he has killed these four people…
Came in this way… Caught on getting mobile location
After the murder of the third guard, there was a stir from Sagar to Bhopal. Home Minister Narottam Mishra spoke to Sagar SP Tarun Nayak and instructed to catch the serial killer soon. So the police spread all around. After the murder of guard Mangal Ahirwar in Motinagar, Sagar, Shiv came to Bhopal by train on 30th August. He came to know that the police had become active.
He roamed around the railway station, bus stand in Bhopal. He had killed guard Shambhu Dayal at the Art and Commerce College in Sagar and kept his mobile with him. He had switched off the mobile. On the other hand, Sagar police had also taken Shambhu’s mobile number on surveillance.
Shiv switched on the mobile at around 11 pm on Thursday. Sagar police got to know the location. Immediately the team left for Bhopal. Before Sagar police reached Bhopal, Shiv switched off his mobile. Police kept searching for him in Bairagarh, Kohefiza, Lalghati area since around 1.30 pm, but he could not be found. At around 3:27 pm, Shiva once again turned on the mobile. The police got to know his location in Lalghati area.
The police caught him at 5 am. The police had reached about 40 km away from Bhopal when he told the police that he had killed a guard in a marble shop in Bhopal a while back. The police also found the mobile of the Bhopal guard with him. The Sagar police immediately informed the Bhopal Police officials. Khajuri Road Police reached the spot. The guard was found covered in blood.
Serial killer Shiv was arrested by Sagar police in Bhopal. When the police was taking him with him, he also showed the victory sign. He didn’t have any regrets.
Shiva confessed – killed to be famous
Shiva confessed in the initial interrogation that he was killing the watchmen to get famous. Sleeping people were his target. In the deserted areas, he got soft targets in the form of watchmen, he used to kill them. His next target was the policemen.
10 teams, 250 policemen were engaged in search
Police of 5 police stations were alerted after killing three guards in Sagar in four days. By forming 10 teams, 250 policemen were engaged in search of the accused. Sagar SP Tarun Nayak led it. Police parties in civil dress in night patrolling were deployed in the city. Teams were deployed to scrutinize the CCTV footage. Footage from government and private cameras in and around the crime scene was scanned. With the help of cyber cell, active mobile numbers were checked in the incident areas. Checking the possible deserted places of the city and dhabas etc. where there is a possibility of getting food.
Story of Bhopal’s Chowkidar… used to do two jobs to run the house
The serial killer killed Sonu Verma, the guard of Gaura Marble located at Khajuri Road, with pieces of marble on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday at around 1.30 pm. After the death of Sonu, his mother and elder brother suffering from TB have become destitute. In such a situation, the family is demanding from the government to give strict punishment to the killer and financial assistance to the family.
Sonu’s family is originally from Bhind district. In 2005, his family settled in Bhopal for employment. After coming to Bhopal, his father Suresh Verma started the job of a watchman in Gaura Marble.
He has four sons and a daughter. Sonu was their fourth child. A few months back, Sonu’s father died of a heart attack. After this Sonu Gaura started doing watchmanship in marble. Sonu, 25, had studied only till the fifth standard. Sonu used to do watchman at night. He would come on duty at 7 pm and go home at 7 am. After 12 hours of duty, he used to get 5000 rupees a month.
To run the house, Sonu used to work part time on a tanker supplying water. After working there, he hardly got 3-4 thousand rupees. Even after working day and night like this in a month, he could hardly earn only 8-9 thousand rupees.
Four brothers, one handicapped and one victim
Sonu had three brothers and one sister. Sister has died due to TB disease. One brother is still battling TB disease. Sonu was also getting his treatment done. The eldest brother Mangal Verma is handicapped. His entire family lived in a two-room flat given by the government.
The eldest and youngest brother shifted to another place when there was less space in the house. Both those brothers were also barely running the house by doing small jobs. In such a situation, the responsibility of mother and brother ill with TB was on Sonu’s shoulders.
Clues not found in the murder of the watchman on May 1
On the night of May 1, 58-year-old watchman Uttam Rajak, a resident of Pipariya Karkat, was also murdered with a stick while sleeping. The police have not yet got a clue in this case. The involvement of serial killer Shiva in this case has not been confirmed by the police.
