The trend of selfies has increased rapidly. People are taking an average of 450 selfies every year, but according to a study, doing so can spoil the face in the photo. Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center reported that selfies distort your face, making your nose appear longer and wider than in normal photos.

The 30 volunteers involved in the study tried to find out how selfies affect the face. Volunteers 3 took two selfies at 12 and 18 inches from the front camera and one selfie at 5 feet from a digital camera. These three selfies were clicked together.

Selfie affects health
The nose appears 6.4% longer in a selfie taken from a 12-inch distance and 4.3% longer in a selfie taken from an 18-inch distance, compared to a photo taken with a digital camera. The chin length was also found to be 12% shorter on average in selfies from 12 inches away. This resulted in a 17% increase in the ratio of nose and chin length. Researchers warn that looking bad in selfies also has a bad effect on mental health.
