Second case of monkeypox in India: Patient confirmed in Kannur, Kerala; Those coming from abroad are being monitored

The second case of monkeypox has been confirmed in India. The patient has been found in Kannur city of Kerala. Kerala Health Minister Veena George gave information about this matter on Monday. Earlier, the first case of monkeypox found was also found in Kerala on Thursday itself. A 35-year-old youth had reached Kollam from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a conversation with the media, George told that the second patient is a 31-year-old youth. After showing symptoms of the disease, he was admitted to Pariyaram Medical College for treatment. At present, the patient’s condition is stable and people who came in contact with him are also being investigated.

Central government is keeping an eye on the passengers

Seeing the rapid spread of monkeypox, the central government has also swung into action. After receiving the first case, the Health Ministry has issued necessary guidelines on Friday. These include testing of travelers coming from abroad, monitoring and treating people who came in contact with the patient.

  • Travelers returning from abroad will have to avoid coming in contact with sick people.
  • They have to avoid coming into contact with wild animals alive or dead and rats, squirrels, monkeys.
  • Travelers have been advised not to eat meat from wild animals and not to use creams, lotions and powders made from animals from Africa.
  • Stay away from bedding and clothing that has come in contact with sick people or infected animals.

Who will be called the suspected patient?

Those people who have returned after traveling to countries affected by monkeypox in the last 21 days and have symptoms of the disease will be included in the list of suspected patients. Symptoms include a pus-filled rash on the body, high fever, headache, muscle aches, weakness and swollen lymph nodes. The suspected patient can be of any age or gender.

Who will be called the potential patient?

A person who has come in contact with a suspected patient or has come in contact with or physical contact of an infected patient can be a possible patient of monkeypox. According to the government, such people will be monitored for the next 21 days after coming in contact.

Monkeypox cases cross 12,000

According to data from Monkeypoxmeter.com, so far 12,701 patients have been confirmed in 76 countries. Of these, 9,708 people have been affected by monkeypox the most in Europe. At the same time, the top 10 countries affected by the disease include Britain, Spain, America, Germany, France, Portugal, Canada, Netherlands, Italy and Belgium. Monkeypox has killed three people this year.
