The Jail Department has taken a new initiative in Punjab. Medical examination of prisoners lodged in all the jails of the state will be done. In which it will be ascertained whether he is intoxicated in jail or not. If this happens, then a case will be registered against the person who is intoxicating and supplying it to the jail.

Punjab will be the first state in the country to do so. Jail Minister Harjot Bains confirmed this. He said that it has started from Ropar Jail. After the result is out, similar medical screening will be done in all the jails of Punjab.

Jail Minister Harjot Bains said that all the prisoners have been medically examined in Ropar Jail in Punjab. So that it can be found out that how many prisoners are drug addicts. What kind of intoxicant does he drink?

Data will be matched with de-addiction centers
Then his data will be matched with the registered drug addicts in the de-addiction centres. If they meet with each other then it will be fine otherwise it will be investigated. Which intoxicant he uses and how this intoxication reached inside the jail, it will be ascertained.

Jails will be drug free
Action will be taken against whoever is found responsible. The prisoner who is taking intoxicants will be made drug-free by counseling him. This will help in de-addiction of jails. He said that drug screening data would also be released soon.
