Polling parties have reached the booths for the Lok Sabha by-election in Sangrur seat.

Sangrur Lok Sabha seat by-election is being held today. Voting will start here from 8 am. Which will go on till 6 pm. Tight security arrangements have been made for the polling. In this seat, there is a contest between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, Akali Dal, BJP and SAD (Amritsar). Counting of votes will take place on June 26.

This by-election is very important for the Aam Aadmi Party. This is AAP’s first election, nearly 100 days after the formation of the government in Punjab. If you win, it will be considered as a seal on the government’s performance. If you lose, questions will arise.

Challenge of saving stronghold on Bhagwant Mann
Sangrur Lok Sabha seat has been a stronghold of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. Mann won the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections from here. He was the lone AAP MP from across the country to win in 2019. Mann became MLA this time by winning the election from Dhuri Vis seat. He resigned from the seat to become the CM after the party got 92 seats out of 117. Now for the last one week, he is stuck in Sangrur. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has also campaigned here. AAP has given ticket to Sarpanch Gurmel Singh Gharancho from here.

Musewala massacre
Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala murder case dominated the election campaign of Sangrur. Musewala was shot dead in Mansa. A day before that, the AAP government had reduced his security. Congress and SAD Amritsar are seeking votes on this issue. On the other hand, Akali Dal has made it a Panthak issue. In which Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana, sister of Balwant Rajoana, convicted of Beant murder case, has been given ticket. He is raising the issue of release of captive Sikhs.
