Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Officially Launched. New Chipset, Camera, Design And More

After a series of leaks and rumours, Samsung has unveiled its flagship Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 smartphones. The launch of the premium smartphones from Samsung comes days ahead of the unveiling of the flagship OnePlus 11 alongside the OnePlus 11R. However, the true competitor to the Galaxy S23 line would be the Apple iPhone 15 line, which is expected to be unveiled this fall.

Galaxy S23 Ultra, S23+ and S23 prices

The Galaxy S23 has been announced at $799 while the Galaxy S23+ has been available for $999 and the Galaxy S23 Ultra for $1,199. The Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra use the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC globally.

A key highlight of the series is the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which brings incremental upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy S22 Ultra. There is a 200MP 200MP ISOCELL HP2 proprietary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, coupled with 12MP ultrawide camera and two 10MP telephoto sensors. All the S23 series models feature the same 12MP selfie shooter.

Samsung has also added Astro Hyperlapse feature in the lineup that would let users shoot astro hyper-lapse videos without additional equipment. The company has also added support for 360-degree audio recording for videos with the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

The S23 Ultra features double optical image stabilisation (OIS), noise reduction capabilities, enhanced colour saturation and the new nightography mode. The base variant of the phone comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There are three other variants 12GB of RAM and 256GB of memory, 512GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. The smartphone is powered by a big 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging (both wireless and reverse wireless charging).

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch QHD AMOLED display while the Galaxy S23+ gets a 6.6-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and the vanilla Galaxy S23 comes with a 6.1-inch FHD+ AMOLED display. The vanilla Galaxy S23 models comes with a symmetrical front bezel and a premium design.

The devices run Android 13-based OneUI 5.1 based out-of-the-box. Samsung has also bumped up the battery capacity on both S23 and S23+ by 200mAh, which means the Galaxy S23 now has a 3900mAh while the Galaxy S23+ has a 4700mAh battery.

Samsung also announced that all the Galaxy S23 smartphones sold in India will be manufactured locally at the company’s Noida factory. Samsung had inaugurated the world’s largest mobile factory in Noida in 2018, with an aim to make India a global manufacturing hub.
