Sachin Tendulkar leads wishes after Jeremy Lalrinnunga wins gold in 67kg finals – The laurels keep coming for India

Jeremy Lalrinnunga, on Sunday, July 31, won gold in the men’s 67kg finals in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The 19-year-old star from Mizoram lifted 300kg (140kg + 160kg) as India won their second gold medal in weightlifting in the ongoing mega event.

However, he had an injury scare in the clean and jerk round. He targeted 143 kgs in his final attempt, but couldn’t quite get over the line. The 2021 Commonwealth Championship winner started by lifting 154kg and followed it up with a 160-kg lift. Nevertheless, he faltered while going for 165 kgs.

It happened to be India’s fifth medal in weightlifting in the CWG 2022. Earlier, Mirabai Chanu, Sanket Sargar, Gururaj Poojary, and Bidyarani Devi won medals for India in the sport. Jeremy is also a 2016 Youth World Championship silver medallist and a 2016 Asian Youth Championship silver medallist.

In the meantime, Lalrinnunga conjured praise from every nook and corner of the country. Sachin Tendulkar, Parthiv Patel, Harbhajan Singh and a number of other prominent names heaped praise on the youngster for rising to the occasion on the big stage.

“The laurels keep coming for India in weightlifting! Many congratulations to Jeremy Lalrinnunga & Bindyarani Devi for the Gold & Silver respectively,” wrote Sachin on his Twitter handle.

Harbhajan took to Twitter and wrote, “Congratulations to Jeremy Lalrinnunga for the Gold medal in the men’s 67 kg snatch event. You have made all of us proud and your success is yet another feature to India’s achievement in #B2022 #CWG2022.”
