‘Russian Spy’ Whale Hvaldimir ‘Shot Dead’? Animal Rights Groups Say ‘Can’t Rule Out Criminal Act’ – News18

Animal rights groups claimed on September 5 that a beluga whale, suspected of being a Russian spy, was shot dead off Norway’s coast. The whale, nicknamed Hvaldimir, was found with bullet wounds in Risavika Bay on August 31. Organizations NOAH and One Whale have filed a police complaint, urging a criminal investigation into the “heinous crime.” The whale, first spotted in 2019 with a suspicious harness, had sparked espionage rumors. The Norwegian Veterinary Institute is conducting an autopsy.
