Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived in India amid the Ukraine war, met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi today. After the meeting, he told the media that our President Vladimir Putin has sent a thank you to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India and Russia have been developing defense partnership for a long time. We both want to maintain balance in the world order.

Lavrov praised India on the Ukraine issue and said that India is moving forward with understanding without any pressure. I believe that the specialty of Indian foreign policy is to focus on its national interests without any pressure. Russian Federation has a similar policy, it makes us a big country and that makes us good and loyal friends and partners.

The Russian Foreign Minister further said – We are ready to give whatever goods India wants to buy from us. Russia and India have very good relations.

There is no war in Ukraine, a special operation is going on
On the question asked about Ukraine war, he said that you are calling it war which is not true. This is a special operation, in which the infrastructure of the Ukrainian Army is being targeted. Our only objective is that the government of Kyiv should not become a threat to Russia in the coming times.

No pressure will be able to affect our partnership
Will US pressure on India affect India-Russia relations? On this question, he said that I have no doubt that no pressure will be able to affect our partnership. They (USA) are forcing other countries to follow their politics.

India can play a role in Ukraine war
On whether India can become a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, he said that India is an important country. If India can play such a role in which it can give reasonable suggestions to resolve international issues, then we will accept this role of India.

Lavrov’s third trip abroad
This is Lavrov’s third foreign trip since the February 24 Russian attack on Ukraine. Earlier, Lavrov had gone to Turkey and China for talks with his Ukrainian counterpart in early March.
