Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has been focusing on his fitness regime ahead of the Test season. India’s red-ball is scheduled to begin with a two-match home series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19. Rohit has already kicked off his preparation for the crucial Test assignments.

The Indian skipper was recently spotted sweating it out at the newly renovated gym of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). It was revealed in a social media post that Rohit was the first player to use the revamped facility at the MCA headquarters. The MCA shared some glimpses of Rohit taking part in an intense workout session. The caption of the post, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), read, “We’re thrilled to share a glimpse of the first person to use our newly renovated gym for a workout: our captain, Rohit Sharma. A new era of fitness begins with him leading the way.”

Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India managed to win the second T20 World Cup crown in Barbados earlier this year. India got the better of South Africa in the final to lift the trophy. Rohit has been out of action since the Sri Lanka tour where he led India in three ODIs. The Men in Blue failed to win any game in the series. The opening fixture ended in a dramatic tie. Sri Lanka won the remaining two matches and notched their first ODI series win over India in 27 years.

Despite the disappointing defeat, Rohit Sharma was able to showcase brilliant batting. The India captain scored half-centuries in the first two ODIs and struck 35 runs in the third match. With 157 runs in three matches, Rohit was the top-scorer for India in the series. The series was also India’s first assignment under head coach Gautam Gambhir. The newly appointed head coach will be desperate to achieve success in the upcoming Bangladesh series.

After the home series against Bangladesh, the Rohit Sharma-led India will host New Zealand in three Tests. They will travel to Australia in November to feature in the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India currently lead the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with 74 points in 9 matches. Meanwhile, Australia hold the second spot, having accumulated 90 points in 12 Tests in this cycle.
