In Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari on Wednesday, the Municipal Corporation had to face embarrassment when none of the ten heads of Ravana were burnt during Ravana Dahan on Vijayadashami. Now Municipal Corporation employee Rajendra Yadav has been suspended for negligence in making the effigy. Show cause notices of 4 officers have also been issued.
The program of Ravana Dahan started at around 8.15 pm on the night of 5 October at Gaushala Maidan of Dhamtari. A 30 feet high effigy of Ravana was set on fire. The effigy was burnt to death within a minute, but all the heads remained intact. This happened for the first time that not a single head of Ravana was burnt in the main function of Dussehra festival organized by the corporation.

In such a situation, the corporation officers and public representatives present on the spot started laughing. Commissioner in-charge of the corporation and EE Rajesh Padmavar said that not a single rupee will be given to the one who makes Ravana.

Ramlila staged
Here, before the burning of Ravana, the praises of Lord Shri Ram kept resonating in the Dussehra ground. The artists of Adarsh Bal Samaj Leela Mandali also staged Ramlila. The slaughter of Lord Shri Ram and Ravana was staged for about 45 minutes.

Worship of Ravana’s statue in Mujhagan
Unique Dussehra Festival was celebrated at Mujhagan, 5 km from the district headquarter. Here the idol of Ravana made of 20 feet cement was worshipped. The 20 feet high statue was permanently installed in the year 2005. Since then on Vijayadashami, his idol is worshiped instead of Ravana burning.
