Ranveer Singh starrer ‘83’ inches closer to 100 crore mark – Times of India

Ranveer Singh starrer ‘83’ is slowly inching closer to the coveted 100 crore mark. The film released around Christmas last month and has had a tough battle at the box office with biggies like ‘Pushpa’ (Hindi) and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. This sports drama is in its fourth week at the box office and has raked in approximately Rs 1.75 crore nett.

The film recorded a drop of 53 per cent from the previous week and now stands at a total of Rs 98.50 crore nett, reports Boxofficeindia. It is going to be a slow race for ‘83’ to reach the 100 crore mark. This wouldn’t have been possible for ‘83’ if films like ‘Jersey’ and ‘RRR’ had stuck to their release dates.

Speaking about the film’s failure, director Kabir Khan had shared that ‘83’ was a victim of the pandemic as it had to face several restrictions due to the sudden surge in COVID cases. “I feel exhilarated to have created this film which has received so much love but at the same time there is a disappointment that not everybody who wants to watch it can see it today because the pandemic is there with historic numbers. We nurtured the film for two years, waited for the correct time so that everybody gets to see it on the big screen. But with this pandemic, despite our best planning, one can never get it right,” Kabir Khan had told PTI. Apart from Ranveer Singh, ‘83’ also featured Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem and Jatin Sarna among others.
