Ramp up vaccination of teens, Nalanda DM asks district officials | Patna News – Times of India

BIHARSHARIF: A sudden spurt in Covid cases in Nalanda this week has worried health officials in the district. The district, which had no active case a week ago, reported as many as 205 active cases on Friday.
On January 5, the number of active cases, including 17 reported from Harnaut coach factory, was 60, which jumped to 205 on Friday. At least 10 fresh Covid cases were reported from Harnaut coach factory colony on Friday. The district registered76 fresh cases on Friday.
Nalanda civil surgeon Dr Sunil Kumar, who had also tested Covid positive on Wednesday, said unlike previous year, the severity of infection was less this time and all the infected persons were kept in home isolation.
Taking cognizance of the rapid spread of the pandemic in the district, newly-appointed Nalanda DM Shashank Shubhankar has asked the civil surgeon to reserve 20 beds for emergency patients at Biharsharif sadar hospital, which has been declared a dedicated covid health centre.
Biharsharif bidi workers’ hospital as well as Hilsa and Rajgir sub-divisional hospitals have also been declared DCHCs.
While reviewing the measures being taken to contain the spread of Covid with district officials on Friday, the DM appointed Nalanda DDC, ADM, municipal commissioner and some district officials as heads of different cells, including sanitation and sanitization.
The DM has also asked the health officials to expedite vaccination of children in 15-18 age group. District immunization officer Dr Ram Mohan Sahay said around 21,000 children in 15 to 18 age group had been vaccinated till Thursday since the launch of the drive on January 3.
