Ram Rahim’s 90-day sentence waived: Haryana government’s decision; 3 months relaxation for prisoners sentenced for more than 10 years

The Haryana government has waived off the 90-day sentence of Dera Mukhi Ram Rahim. The government has decided on Republic Day that prisoners sentenced for more than 10 years will be given a remission of 3 months. Dera Mukhi will be benefited by this decision of the government. Right now Ram Rahim is out on parole.

What is the decision of Haryana government

On the occasion of Republic Day, special remission of 3 months will be given to the prisoners serving the sentence awarded by the Courts of Criminal Jurisdiction in the State. Offenders who have been sentenced to life imprisonment, for a term of 10 years or more, will be given 90 days and for criminals who have been sentenced for more than five years and less than 10 years, they will be given 60 days of remission. Prisoners with a sentence of less than five years will be given a grace period of 30 days.

Those on parole and furlough will also get benefits

Haryana’s Energy and Jail Minister Chaudhary Ranjit Singh said that on Republic Day i.e. January 26, 2023, this exemption will also be given to all the criminals who have come on parole and furlough from jail. The government has placed a condition that the prisoners surrender themselves in the respective prisons at their stipulated time, in that case this relaxation will be given for the remaining period of imprisonment.
