In 4 districts of Rajasthan (Kota, Baran, Sriganganagar and Karauli), the elections of Zilla Parishad members and Panchayat Samiti were held in 3 phases. The results were out on Thursday. In the election, Congress could make two and BJP its chief in one district. Despite having majority in two districts, BJP could make district chief in one place, whereas Congress had majority in two districts, but by manipulation, it made three district chiefs. In Baran district of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s MP son Dushyant Singh’s Lok Sabha constituency, the BJP could not make its district chief even though it was in majority.

In Baran district, Urmila, wife of Mining Minister Pramod Jain Bhaya, has become the district head in the Ashok Gehlot government. There was cross voting in the BJP camp here. In Baran, out of 25 Zilla Parishad members, 12 from Congress and 13 from BJP were elected, but in the election of district chief, a member of BJP camp voted in favor of Urmila by cross-voting. The internal factionalism in BJP came to the fore due to cross voting. Here Dushyant Singh’s supporters and his opponents were active in opposing each other for a long time.
