The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team on Tuesday morning raided 16 locations of National Herald including Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. This action has been taken after questioning Sonia and Rahul.

Shortly after this action, Rahul Gandhi has posted on social media that Congress belongs to you people and you are the strength of Congress. We have to fight every decree of the dictator.

Rahul said- Trying to suppress the voice of the public
During the ED action itself, Rahul Gandhi wrote on social media, ‘Don’t consider yourself alone, Congress is your voice, and you are the strength of Congress. We have to fight with every decree of the dictator, every attempt to suppress the voice of the people. For you, I and the Congress party have been fighting and will fight further. You know very well which issues should be discussed in the country today because every wrong policy of the government is affecting your life.

Rahul Gandhi further wrote, ‘This government wants you to accept everything of the dictator without questioning. I assure you all, there is no need to fear them and suffer dictatorship. They are cowards, afraid of your strength and unity, therefore attacking him constantly. If you face them unitedly, they will be scared. I promise you, we will neither be afraid nor let them scare you.’

On July 27, ED asked Sonia these questions-

  • In which field does Young India Limited organization work?
  • How many transaction meetings were held at your residence 10 Janpath?
  • What do you know about the transaction? How did its shares sell?

Sonia was questioned for 12 hours in 3 days
Sonia had reached the ED office for the first time on July 21, where she was interrogated for three hours. After this there was a break of 5 days. After this, the ED called him on July 26 and questioned him for 6 hours. On Wednesday last week, the ED had called Sonia for questioning, where the agency questioned her for 3 hours. During the total interrogation of 12 hours, more than 100 questions were asked from him.

Earlier, the ED had questioned Rahul Gandhi in separate rounds for more than 50 hours over five days in June in connection with the National Herald case.

Know what is the National Herald case?
The National Herald case was first raised by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2012. In August 2014, the ED took suo motu cognizance of the case and filed a money laundering case. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress’s Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandez, Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey were made accused in the case. Understand this whole case from the graphics below…

Nehru started the National Herald newspaper
The National Herald newspaper, in which Sonia and Rahul have been summoned by the ED, was started in 1938 by Jawaharlal Nehru along with 5000 freedom fighters. The newspaper was published by Associated Journal Limited (AJL). After independence, this newspaper became the mouthpiece of the Congress.

AJL used to publish this newspaper in three languages. Apart from ‘National Herald’ in English, ‘Navjeevan’ in Hindi and ‘Quami Awaaz’ in Urdu. Gradually the paper went into loss and was closed in 2008 despite a loan of Rs 90 crore from Congress.

In 2010, a new organization called Young Indian Private Limited (YIL) was formed, which took over AJL, which runs the National Herald. The board of directors of YIL included Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Sonia and Rahul held 76% stake in YIL and the remaining 24% was held by Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandez. Motilal Vora passed away in 2020 and Oscar Fernandez in 2021. After this, Congress transferred 90 crore loan of AJL to YIL.

In return for repaying the Congress loan, AJL gave 9 crore shares to Young Indian. With these 9 crore shares, Young Indian got 99% shares of AJL. After this the Congress waived the loan of 90 crores of AJL. Subramanian Swamy had filed a case questioning the same deal.
