rai: ‘language Row Was Meant To Divert Focus From Main Issues’ | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Former MP and ex-president of the state BJP unit, Ravindra Rai, on Monday claimed that the Hemant Soren government deliberately tried to incite tension and riot-like situation across Jharkhand with the ongoing language row. He also claimed that the government engineered the row to divert people from the real issues.
On Sunday, Rai had a narrow escape in Bokaro after a section of protesters demanding inclusion of Maghi and Bhojpuri in regional languages list in the state’s new recruitment policy, charged at his vehicle. Later, Rai filed an FIR with the Chas Mufassil police station in connection with the attack.
Speaking to reporters in Ranchi on Monday at the party office, he said, “The row over languages is triggered by the new recruitment policy brought in by the government last year. It is a tactful attempt to stoke tension in the state as the government has failed on all fronts. Now, it wants to stoke tension so that people don’t ask the real questions related to law and order and jobs, etc.”
Referring to the recent passage of the anti-mob lynching bill in the assembly, he said, “On one hand, the government brings in an anti-mob lynching bill but on the other, the situation in the state is such that people are ready to lynching others in the name of language. This wasn’t why Jharkhand was made a separate state. Under this regime, law and order has become so bad that people now fear venturing out of their homes.”
JMM has, however, charged Rai with deliberately trying to spread tension in the state. The party’s central general secretary, Supriyo Bhattacharya, said, “The BJP leader is instigating the protesters to create violence. The protesters were taking up their demonstration after announcing it beforehand. Still, Rai went to the site to meddle with them, which is an effort to create law and order problems. BJP must answer for his motive.”
