Punjab elections: 931 candidates file nominations on last day – India Times Hindi News – Henry Club

Chandigarh, February 1: 931 candidates, including Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, on Tuesday filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. Officials gave this information. Tuesday was the last day for filing nominations.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Karuna Raju said that a total of 2,279 candidates have filed nomination papers. Channi filed nomination papers from Chamkaur Sahib seat.

Rebel Congress leader Daman Bajwa, who was denied ticket by the party, filed his nomination papers from Sunam seat as an independent. Congress has fielded Jaswinder Dhiman, nephew of Amargarh MLA Surjit Dhiman, from Sunam.

Rana Inder Pratap, son of Punjab minister Rana Gurjit Singh also filed nomination papers as an independent from Sultanpur Lodhi seat. Congress has fielded sitting MLA Navtej Cheema from Sultanpur Lodhi. Manjeet Kaur, wife of Punjab Deputy Speaker and sitting Malout MLA Ajaib Singh Bhatti, filed her nomination as an independent from Bhadaur seat.

Apart from Chamkaur Sahib, Channi is contesting from Bhadaur. Channi’s brother Manohar Singh, rebel Congress leaders Angad Saini and Amrik Singh Dhillon have filed their nominations as independents from Bassi Pathana, Nawanshahr and Samrala respectively after being denied tickets by the Congress.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on February 2 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 4. Voting for the 117-member Punjab Assembly will be held on February 20. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
