Success in any field often requires dedication, hard work, and, most importantly, unwavering patience. Pooja Ranawat, an IRS (Internal Revenue Service) officer, embodies this spirit, showcasing resilience in her journey to achieve the highest of successes in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.

Pooja started her UPSC preparation during her college years, recognizing the significance of early commitment to such a challenging endeavour. After completing her graduation, she pursued a Master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations through distance education from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

Reports suggest that Pooja encountered numerous obstacles during her UPSC journey, particularly in the initial stages. Her first four attempts at the civil service examination, starting in 2013, ended in not clearing the prelims. However, rather than succumbing to discouragement, Pooja exhibited remarkable determination. She persisted in her efforts, making a conscious decision not to give up on her dreams.

Pooja’s strategic approach included meticulous note-taking as a part of her study routine, a practice that significantly contributed to her success. In her fifth attempt in 2017, Pooja’s perseverance bore fruit as she secured an all-India rank of 258, qualifying her for the coveted Indian Revenue Service (IRS). Presently, she serves as a Deputy Commissioner in the income tax department.

Hailing from the Godwad Dujana village in Pune, Maharashtra, Pooja Ranawat completed her early education in her hometown before joining Fergusson College, Pune, where she pursued a degree in Psychology.

The UPSC, established on October 1, 1926, plays a crucial role in recruiting candidates for various civil services in India. Dr. Manoj Soni currently serves as the Chairman of the Commission.
