PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Amid heavy encroachment on the Datta Mandir Road in Kaspate Wasti in Wakad, the Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Societies Federation has demanded the civic body to present its concreting plan.
“The road is likely to be narrowed from 45 metres to 24 metres, which will create extreme traffic woes in the area,” said a federation member. According to the Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Societies Federation (PCCHSF) authorities, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) officials, including the commissioner, Rajesh Patil, remained unavailable to discuss their demand.
The 2km-long-Datta Mandir Road extends from Dange Chowk on Sangvi-Kiwale BRTS Road to the Wakad Municipal School Chowk on Nashik Phata-Wakad BRTS Road.
“We submitted our memorandum to the commissioner’s office earlier, but there had been no reply yet. When we visited the civic chief’s office on Friday, he remained unavailable,” said Sachin Londhe, the founder of PCCHSF.
He said Nandan Inspera Housing Society was a big-time victim of encroachment on this road. “Since 2018, we are demanding the widening of the road as per the DP (development plan) of 45 metres only. After understanding the issue of false planning of road widening, our federation has demanded that the PCMC commissioner should show us the official presentation of the road work plan. We wish to put forth our suggestions in widening the road,” Londhe said.
Around 21 societies have submitted the letter demanding to see the road work plan and retain its 45 metres width. “If the demand and suggestions from residents are not accepted, we may agitate soon against this,” he said.
Tejaswini Dhomse Sawai, the chairperson of PCCHSF, said, “It is expected that the road should be planned, land should be acquired and then the construction work should begin. Unless it is within the framework, it will be chaotic,” she said.
PCMC commissioner Patil told TOI, “There are two stretches on the road – one is 1,200 to 1,300 metres, which is 45 metres wide. Another 700-metre stretch is 24 metres wide, as per the original plan. The longer one was in the original DP of the Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority and we are proceeding with it.”
Patil said he would inform the civic officials concerned to offer the road work plan presentation to the federation delegates.
Mamata Gaikwad, former standing committee chairman and the corporator of Ward 26, said this was an important road for Wakad residents and as a people’s representative, she had yet not been given the details of how the road would be developed. If the presentation is not given, the administration would have to face the wrath and opposition of residents, she added.
