Puducherry Declares Next 12 Saturdays Working For Schools – News18

Schools had a long summer break from April 17 to July 17.

A press release by Puducherry School Education Joint Director, Sivakami shared the details about the dates.

In Puducherry, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum has been implemented in the government schools from 2024-25. The academic classes for the year 2024-25 have started on April 1. Due to the parliamentary elections and excessive summer heat, which resulted in early vacations and the Muharram festival, holidays were declared for government and private schools from April 17 to July 17. This resulted in the loss of 12 working days. To compensate for these holidays, an announcement has been made across the Union Territory that all schools will compulsorily be open for the next 12 Saturdays. A press release by Puducherry School Education Joint Director, Sivakami shared the details about the dates when the school will be open.

As per the announcement, on the following dates, the schools will be operational to make up for the holidays. The schools will remain operational on 20.7.2024, 03.08.2024, 10.08.2024, 24.08.2024, 31.08.2024, 21.9.2024, 28.9.2024, 5.10.2024, 19.10.2024, 26.10.2024, 9.11.2024, 23.11.2024.

The Directorate of School Education on Tuesday recently released a notification that all the schools in Puducherry to be closed on July 17, Wednesday, on the occasion of Muharram. The test which was supposed to be scheduled for the date was postponed and will now be held on July 24. The notification read, “The timetable for the Conduct of Common Periodical Test- I have been communicated to all the Government Schools in the U.T. of Puducherry. The Periodical Test scheduled on 17.07.2024 (Wednesday) is postponed to 24.07.2024 (Wednesday). The remaining test will be conducted as per the timetable communicated earlier,” said the notification.

This year, due to excessive heat which resulted in a heatwave, dehydration and other health issues, the summer vacations in many states were declared early on.
