Defying the police, protesters stormed the Galle Fort ramparts with anti-government banners and posters during the ongoing test between Sri Lanka and Australia.

The protesters entered the stadium despite the security personnel’s attempts to stop them from getting inside.

The second test between Sri Lanka and Australia started on July 8.

“Public defied police orders and entered the rampart of the Galle Fort with Anti-government banners and posters while Sri Lanka is hosting Australia in the second Test,” Champika Fernando, a twitter user’s tweet read.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SRI LANKA?

Thousands of protesters stormed Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s official residence in the capital of Colombo, forcing him to flee to an unknown location. Protesters shouted, “Gota go home” and demanded his resignation. Protesters also set fire to prime minister Ranil Wickremesingh’s private residence.

Gotabaya will resign from the presidency on July 13 while Ranil Wickremesingh stepped down as Sri Lanka’s prime minister on Saturday, July 10.
