Following the order of the Supreme Court, 6 convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case were released from jail on Saturday. The most popular name in this is that of Nalini. Nalini told on Sunday that Rajiv Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka came to meet me in Vellore Central Jail in 2008. He questioned about the murder of the father. Whatever I knew, I gave all the information to Priyanka, hearing which she started crying.

When Nalini was asked about the conversation in the meeting, she refused to give full details. Nalini said that what else happened in that meeting, it cannot be disclosed. These were Priyanka’s personal views, which I cannot divulge.

Nalini said that I am grateful to the Gandhi family. If I get a chance, I will definitely meet him. I want to visit some places in Tamil Nadu. Especially the Kamala Sir Memorial. I want to meet all the people who helped me get out of jail. I also want to meet Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin. I want to meet him and thank him.

Recalling the jail days, Nalini said that I was pregnant for two months, yet I was kept in jail. There people behaved like convicts sentenced to death. Now family is my priority. My whole life has been ruined. So now I will stay at home and focus on my family. Wherever my husband V Sriharan aka Murugan goes, I will go there. Nalini, 55, said she is innocent. Let us tell you that Nalini is the longest serving female prisoner in the country. He was arrested in 1991 at the age of 24.

6 convicts released on Saturday
Six convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case were released from different jails in Tamil Nadu on Saturday evening. These include Nalini Sriharan, her husband V Sriharan besides Santhan, Robert Payas, Jayakumar and Ravichandran. Among them Sriharan and Santhan are citizens of Sri Lanka.

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by an LTTE suicide bomber named Dhanu during an election rally at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu on 21 May 1991. LTTE’s female terrorist Dhanu (Tenmoji Rajaratnam) touches Rajiv’s feet after garlanding him with flowers and, bending down, detonates the explosives strapped to his waist. The explosion was so strong that many people were torn to pieces. 16 people, including Rajeev and the attacker Dhanu, died on the spot, while 45 people were seriously injured.
