But in this marathon meeting that lasted for two hours, the party could not decide whether it would support Draupadi Murmu or Yashwant Sinha of the United Progressive Alliance in the presidential election.

JMM MLA Nalin Soren said that in this meeting held at Shibu Soren’s residence in Morhabadi, the party decided that some issues would be discussed with the central government first and only then the party would take the final call on supporting Draupadi Murmu’s candidature. After the meeting, JMM leader and state minister Mithilesh Thakur also said that important points of state interest and country’s interest were discussed in the meeting. “Till now we have not decided in whose favor to vote. There will be another party meeting only after that a final decision will be taken.” Draupadi Murmu is originally from Mayurbhanj district of Odisha and belongs to the Santhal community. She has been the Governor of Jharkhand and during this time she had a very close relationship with the JMM.

Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha also has a deep connection with Jharkhand. Yashwant Sinha was MP from Hazaribagh in Jharkhand many times and currently his son Jayant Sinha is BJP’s Lok Sabha MP from Hazaribagh.

Meanwhile, JMM issued a statement and said that the meeting of all the MPs and MLAs of the party was held under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Central President of the party Shibu Soren. In the meeting, the Presidential election was discussed and thereafter the Hon’ble Central President Shibu Soren ji was authorized to take a unanimous decision, the statement said.
