The third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played between India and Australia from March 1 to March 5 at the International Cricket Stadium Dharamshala in Himachal. This will be the 20th international match to be played on this ground. For this, HPCA has started preparations. The chairs in the stadium are being repaired and replaced. The stadium is also being given a new look.

rain will not be a hindrance in the match
Dharamshala Stadium will be the first stadium in the country where the match can resume after 20 minutes of rain. For this, in May 2021, a new drainage system has been installed by digging the stadium. A 12.50 kilometer long pipeline has been laid for this new drainage system. Apart from this, a water tank has also been built under the ground.

Despite the rain, the stadium can be prepared for the match in 20 minutes, for this the HPCA has now prepared the stadium under European technology sub-air. This technique of Europe has also been adopted earlier in Bangalore, India. Now the stadium is being prepared by HPCA adopting the same technology.

Country’s first cricket stadium with Bermuda grass
Dharamshala Cricket Stadium will be the first cricket stadium in the country, in which new type of Bermuda grass will be planted. This Bermuda grass named Pasaplum will be seen in different colors in summer and winter season. It will be easy for the players to run on this grass during the match.

The biggest feature of this grass is that after planting it does not have to be changed for 8 years. This grass does not spoil quickly. The company which is constructing the new outfield at Dharamshala Stadium will sow the seeds of this new variety of Bermuda grass in the ground and after about 3 months the ground will be seen in a new form.

The first international match was played in 2013
After a Ranji match was played at the stadium in 2003, Dharamshala got the chance to host its first international match in 2013, almost ten years later. On 27 January 2013, 1st ODI match was played between India and England at Dharamshala. So far 19 international matches and 2 seasons of IPL matches have been played in Dharamshala.

The 19 international matches include 14 T20 matches, four ODIs and one Test match. The Indian team has played four ODIs, five T20 matches and one Test match in Dharamsala. Of these, two T20 matches were washed away due to rain. While nine T20 matches have been played between other countries.

HPCA Secretary Avneesh said that till now 19 international matches including T20, ODI and Test matches have been played in Dharamshala. These also include a Test match between India and Australia. While the second Test match will be played between India and Australia from March 1. He said that from the year 2010 to 2013, 9 matches of IPL have also been played.
