A case of poisoning of 18 stray dogs has come to light in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. The police have caught the accused. A case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The accused claimed that the village sarpanch had ordered him to kill the dogs.
Police said that the matter is of Chebrole village. The accused has been identified as one K Veerbabu. During interrogation, he told that the village sarpanch and secretary had asked him to kill the dogs by giving him poisonous injections. There is anger in the animal rights group after the death of the dogs. He has demanded immediate action against the accused.
More than 100 stray dogs died in Siddipet
Earlier, a similar case had come to light in Telangana, where more than 100 stray dogs were poisoned and thrown into an empty well in Thigul village of Siddipet district. According to media reports, the sarpanch and the secretary had given orders to kill all the stray dogs by giving them poisonous injections.
The incident happened on March 27. Following this, an activist from Hyderabad lodged a complaint and demanded action against the accused. The activist said that around 200 stray dogs have been killed here in the last three months. Earlier in 2019, around 100 dogs were killed in Siddipet town.
