The Ministry of Defense has made a new rule for the three services. It has been decided to give pension to the families of such officers of the three armies, who die during training. After the formation of this rule, now the trainee officers of NDA and IMA will get the benefit.
The then CDS General Bipin Rawat had asked for an early decision in the death cases during training, but he died before that.
Letter sent to the Chief of the Armies
Anil Agarwal, Deputy Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defense has sent a letter to the Chiefs of the three wings of the Army so that its benefits can be availed by the Pre-Commissioned Officers of the Army, Air Force and Navy.
Many accidents have happened during training
In the year 2017, two cadets were killed during a 10 km run at the Indian Military Academy (IMA). In 2019 too, a cadet died of a head injury. These cadets had not received the commission till then, so their family did not get the benefit of pension.
After the death of the pre-commissioned officer, the issue of pension was also raised in the Parliament.
Now Air Force Chief can also become CDS
The Defense Ministry on Tuesday amended the Air Force Regulations 1964. After this amendment, now Air Marshal, Air Chief Marshal, who is working or retired in the Air Force, can also be made Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). However, a major condition has been laid in this that the person who will be made CDS, his age should not be more than 62 years. This will now be known as the Air Force (Amendment) Regulations 2022.
