The pride and glory of the country, the national flag is a symbol of national pride. When any kind of disaster is seen on the Tricolor, the countrymen are ready to even risk their lives for it. Fireman Sunil Mehla, a resident of Bhatnagar Colony, Jind, posted in the Fire Department of Panipat district of Haryana, has done something similar.

On Tuesday, a fire broke out in a spinning mill in Bharat Nagar of the city. In the midst of the fire, the tricolor was hoisting on the roof of the main gate of the mill. As soon as Sunil caught sight of the tricolor, he risked his life to save it. In no time, the tricolor was brought down safely and with respect it was kept in the neighboring factory.

Fireman Sunil Mehla had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, read some of his excerpts….
Question: There was fire and smoke all around, at that time you were trying to extinguish the fire, meanwhile how did you lose sight of the tricolor?
answer: We are given training from the beginning that whenever there is an incident of arson, we should keep watching that area from all sides. Somewhere the fire did not spread and went to some other place. That’s why my eyes went to the tricolor.

Question: What was the first thing that came to your mind/heart when you saw the tricolor?
answer: Just this was in my mind at that time that I should somehow bring down the tricolor waving in the middle of the fire with respect. Of course, why should I even have to risk my life for this?

Question: Often the building becomes dilapidated in this type of fire, sometimes it even collapses. In such a situation, you unfurled the tricolor by taking a big risk, were you not worried about your life at that time?
answer: We fire brigade personnel make every possible effort to extinguish the fire even in an empty plot. This was the pride of our country amidst the flames, for this the cost of life was not a big deal. If something had happened at the last moment while taking down the tricolor, then even then I was determined to take down the tricolor safely.

Question: There was no place to climb on that wall, how did you reach the top?
answer: I was driving the fire engine. The car was parked just a few steps away from the tricolor roof. I first brought that car to the main gate. Here, below the ceiling, it is adjacent to the wall. After this, fellow personnel were prepared for backup. The enthusiasm was such that within a few seconds I climbed onto the roof and immediately took off the tricolor and came down.

Question: How do you feel now after bringing down the tricolor safely?
answer: After unfurling the tricolor, I caught hold of the comrades standing below. After that I came down. Respectfully took the tricolor to the neighboring factory. Where he was kept with full respect. I have done all this in the honor of the tricolor. I didn’t do all this to become famous. But, after doing this, I am feeling very happy inside.
