Pantry car of Swatantrata Senani Express catches fire in Bihar: Panicked passengers jump from moving train; driver applied emergency brake

A fire broke out in the pantry of the Swatantrata Senani Express in Darbhanga. The incident happened on Monday night around 8:30 pm. On receiving the news of the fire, the driver stopped the train by applying emergency brake. Meanwhile, a situation of stampede was created among the passengers. Some passengers started jumping even before the train stopped. There are reports of injuries to many passengers.

The accident happened near Laheriyasarai station between Darbhanga-Samastipur. Swatantrata Senani Express (12561Up) was traveling from Jaynagar to New Delhi. As soon as the train opened from Darbhanga Junction and reached near Laheriasarai station, a sudden fire broke out in the pantry car.

Laheriyasarai police station in-charge Kumar Kirti told that he was informed by some person that the train had caught fire. Two fire brigade vehicles were sent from the police station. However, the fire engine had reached the spot as soon as the fire brigade station was informed. Earlier the fire was brought under control.

Station Master of Laheriasarai Sunil Kumar Srivastava told how the fire broke out in the pantry car of the train. At present it is not clear. It is being speculated that the fire broke out due to short circuit or during cooking. After security check, the train was dispatched to Samastipur.

It is a matter of relief that the fire did not reach other bogies. There has been no loss of life or property. None of the passengers suffered serious injuries. The train has been dispatched after about an hour.
